Please pray for Carla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla.  She is currently residing in a women’s rehab center in Nicaragua.  We drove there with her in August so that she could finally have a chance to change her life.

She is one of the statistics of the INHFA (government run) orphanages of Honduras.  She was placed there at an early age and because they are overcrowded, understaffed and under financed she has few skills.  Thankfully, she can read and write and has had a wonderful strong Christian women mentor her during the last 2 years.

She has two daughters, the first is being raised by the father’s family and the second is also being raised by her father (different men).

Carla has not has someone in her life to go to when she needed help or for moral, emotional or spiritual support until 2 years ago.  When a child reaches 19 they are no longer able to live at the state orphanage and so are sent out on their own.  She has made many bad choices for her life but thankfully now she has a strong desire to change her life and to get to know God better.

Carla has been addicted to drugs and alcohol for many years, returning to the streets again and again.  She doesn’t believe she has any skills – mainly because she doesn’t believe in herself – and had turned to prostitution to make a living.

She is learning many skills at the rehab center and also getting to know herself and Christ more each day.  She will probably need to be there for at least two years.  The center is very rustic and life is hard there but she has a great opportunity to really change her life.

We believe she will be a great witness for Christ when she completes her rehabilitation and will also be able to be a good full time mom.  Her younger daughter is a delight and is smart, charming and oh so cute.  Carla wants to be able to be a good mother to her and to have a full life for the first time.  Please keep her in your prayers.

During the past weeks … some of our happenings

We have had a few new people come to help with ministry.. They are from a few churches that have come to help for the first time.

We attended a conference that was organized by another mission group and we are excited that there will be a better future for many of the orphanages here in Honduras.

We spend this past Friday at Casa Hogar Luz and Casitas celebrating Children’s day with the kids there..

Santuario de Esperanza has had more than 70 every day recently and most days more than 80.  We have new faces each and every ministry day and almost always take a few of the men to Ministria Vida.

We traveled to Managua, Nicaragua a few weeks ago to take a lady we know to a rehab center there.  She continues to do well there.  She needs the prayers of many and the faith to believe that God can change her life.  (Carla)

We continue to have our Bible study time with the girls of Casitas and they are learning many Bible verses and some wonderful stories of the women of the Bible.

Plans for the coming weeks – just a glimpse

We will have our Bible study at Casitas followed 2 weeks later by a fun… “minute to win it” time.  We think this will be a great time for the girls there and many laughs for all.

We will start a program at El Carmen the boys detention center in a few weeks.  There will be a time of worship and God’s word followed by some snacks and juice.  We have wanted to return to El Carmen since we built beds for them in 2007.  We are very excited about this opportunity.   Many of the boys we know from the street are there.

We want to purchase some extra items for the ministry if possible.  We need a sound system to help us when we are at Casitas and El Carmen.    We also will purchase some other needed items for the ministry building.

We'll go back to visit the prison here again very soon.  The worship service there is so filled with the love of God and the praises of everyone there.   One of the most moving worship services we have ever attended.

We’ll be coming to the states for a visit in November.  We’d love to come and share our mission with you, your church or group.  We have a very short presentation that is mostly photos.   Please let us know when we can come and see you.
