There are many orphanages in this extremely poor country.  The state orphanages are a sad place where the children have very little and almost no opportunities to improve their lives.  The Christian orphanages are much better, with the children given a good education, a nice comfortable home and nutritious food.  What they both also need is to have people spend time with them and to know they are loved… and they are by us.

Most of the children in the orphanages are not really orphans but have been placed there because the parents couldn’t provide for them, they were removed from the home due to abuse or the child left home and was on the streets.

When we first moved to Honduras in 2005 we worked at Casa Hogar Luz; a Christian orphanage.  Although we soon returned to the states and God soon led us back to do street ministry, the children at CHL remain very special to us.  We go to church with them, spend time playing with them and love to have teams come and spend time with them.  The orphanage is closed for Christmas and the workers and members of the church keep a few of the children for the week.   We are blessed each year to have several spend Christmas with us…

The state orphanage we visit is Casita Adolescente – Little house of Adolescents (all girls).  We first visited them in February of 2007 when a team was here to build bunk beds for them.  We got to know many of them during the three days we spent there and we knew God wanted us to do more than just build beds.  Since that time we have become a part of thier lives.  We sing some praise songs, preach a message of hope to them and provide juice and a dessert each time.  We also hug and encourage and let them know how special God says each of them is. This year we have been able to do a Bible study with them every other week.

We have been able to provide a nice Christmas for them; with a small gift bag for each and some necessary supplies for the orphanage. This year we will again perform the Christmas story; reading it from the Bible and acting it all out while in costume, followed by gifts for all.

We want you get to know some of the girls at Casitas orphanage.  This state run orphanage is now home to approximately 130 girls – although they only have 65 beds.

We personally have been a part of Casitas since we helped build the beds there in February of 2007.  We encourage, pray with, sing, worship, and bring gifts of needed items and much more.  They know we love and care for them.

To them we are the “abueloas – or grandparents” and we love to hear them laughing and yelling our names as we approach the building each time.  One of the things we are doing this year is a Bible study with them.

This place has increased continually in number but not in budget and they are not able to provide even the basics for these teen girls.  Through our teams we are able to provide some personal hygiene items, some food supplies and the love and prayers of many.  Now we are asking you to join us in prayer for these girls.

We will try to send out information about one of the girls at least every few weeks.  We love these girls and all the silliness, emotions and everything that goes with being a teen girl.  Unfortunately these are not what most of us would consider our average teen girls. Many come from abusive backgrounds, have been abandoned, have lived in the streets and so many sad stories.

We hope this will give you an opportunity to get to know these girls and to know their needs, to pray for specific girls and also to want to come and meet them and encourage them face to face if possible one day.

You can help both these orphanages by supporting our mission.  There is much they need and we also encourage you to come and spend some time with them.  We know that they will soon capture your hearts as they have ours.
